Join us and Jo Stockdale from Well Within Reach for a one-off workshop titled Demystifying the Adolescent Brain.

This session is completely free for members of The Mighty Creatives’ Creative Mentoring pool and is adapted towards the nature of the Creative Mentoring Service.

What can I expect from the session?

Our knowledge of how the brain changes with the onset of adolescence is advancing, enabling us to better understand both the strengths and vulnerabilities within this rapidly changing brain.

Adolescence is typically associated with many problems; socially, behaviourally, and cognitively; which have the potential to affect any young person. However, for those with added vulnerabilities, i.e., a trauma or ACE’s history; adolescence can amplify this fragility.

Although we can’t change the natural, neurodevelopmental processes of adolescence, we are also discovering that a great deal of strength also exists within the adolescent brain.

If tapped into effectively, we can use this ‘second window of opportunity’ to re-build the adolescent brain, strengthening its capacity for:

  • Social and emotional wellbeing
  • Healthy, fulfilled relationships
  • Decision making, problem solving and planning ahead

Ultimately this session will help you understand how you can most effectively use your practice to support young people through this turbulent transition towards adulthood.

About Jo

Jo has a background in the creative sector and the journey into neuroscience and ‘person-centred development’ began there around 13 years ago in what has been an interesting and unexpected learning journey.

She now specialises in training all kinds of people about brain development, social and emotional competence and wellbeing issues such as resilience and self-esteem. As well as being Well Within Reach’s founder and lead trainer, Jo also provides consultancy support to help organisations to meaningfully ‘decode’ and evidence those impacts and changes usually referred to as ‘soft skills’.

Jo has also been an independent drama practitioner for 15 years, with a particular interest in using creative approaches to support young people with learning disabilities, and those with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
